Search engine optimisation or SEO is something that most website owners are aware of. Most, however, do not understand it and therefore will engage a suitable company to do this work for them. The trick is of course finding a good SEO company which will take care of all your needs and requirements. This can be difficult as there are a lot of companies out there who claim to be all knowing but who in actual fact, are not. So, how do you go about finding the right SEO company? Firstly, ask business associates if they can make any recommendations, after all word of mouth and satisfied customers are worth more than any advertising budget. They could also give you some names to avoid and that could save you a costly exercise.

Once you have found a few companies, it is worth interviewing them to find out further information from them. Discussion forums are another useful source of data, there may be good information there. It is important to get a balanced view of the company you select, one that purports to be great may not be quite as it seems. Make sure they only use ‘white hat’ methods as those who employ ‘black hat’ are likely to get your site banned. Discuss what they are prepared to do with your website and how they will market it. Find out how long the company has been in operation and how many staff they employ. Check out the performance of their customers websites and look at their case studies or testimonials page and read the reviews. You could contact some of these companies to see how satisfied they were with the services they received and if they would recommend them.

Always go with a company you are comfortable with and one that takes time to discuss issues with you. Do not let them baffle you with the science of it all, if you do not understand, ask them to explain it all in layman’s terms. It will take time to get your site properly optimised and listed on the search engines as the optimisation of a website (both on and off page) takes time to work and is not a quick way of getting listed. So, if you want faster results ask about pay per click for the short term. They should be able to talk you through all the options available and what might work best for your company.

Search engine optimisation done properly engages many skills and talents and hopefully the company you choose will have all of these. Remember, SEO is a long on going process and you may not see results for several months. They should be supplying you with regular updates of data analysis and collection. They should also explain what these mean and how your campaign can be improved. The Ssearch company you choose should be knowledgeable and want to make your marketing budget work for you. They should be able to tailor a campaign to suit your company’s services or products. Finally and most importantly, they should customize your SEO package to your budget
